Buena Vista County authorities have arrested a local business owner on a charge of third‑degree harassment following an incident at a bar in Alta over the weekend.
According to online court documents and a criminal complaint filed Sunday, 43‑year‑old Ryan Dean Diischer of Aurelia — the owner of Century Bar in Alta — was booked after a Buena Vista County Sheriff’s deputy documented an alleged threatening and racially-charged statement made inside the business.
The police report states that at about 10:53 p.m. on Saturday night, Diischer had personal contact with a woman identified as the victim and allegedly said, “I am going to rape the next Mexican girl I see.” The victim told the deputy she did not know Diischer, and the report notes she was visibly upset, crying, alarmed and scared by the comment. The deputy noted that the victim felt annoyed and threatened by the remark.
Diischer was subsequently arrested, and the harassment charge — a simple misdemeanor under Iowa law — was formally filed on Sunday. He entered a not guilty plea on Monday and is scheduled to make an initial court appearance at 9 a.m. on Sept. 16.
