The Storm Lake Police Department is investigating a string of vehicle burglaries and a stolen vehicle that led to the arrest of two juveniles in Urbandale.
Just after midnight on Monday, officers responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in the 800 block of West Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake. The vehicle showed signs of forced entry and an attempted theft. A similar incident was discovered around 3:40 a.m. at a business in the 1600 block of Lake Avenue, with matching damage.
By 5:50 a.m., police were called to the 300 block of Ontario Street for a stolen vehicle report. That vehicle was later located in Urbandale around 2 p.m., where officers say two juveniles fled during a traffic stop but were caught after a short foot chase.
One of the juveniles—a 16-year-old male from Storm Lake—had been reported missing earlier that morning. He and a 17-year-old male from Fonda now face multiple charges, including possession of burglar tools, third-degree burglary, and second-degree theft. Both were referred to juvenile court and placed at the Cherokee Youth Emergency Services Shelter.
Storm Lake Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed. They were assisted by Urbandale Police, Buena Vista County Juvenile Court Services, and the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office.
