Storm Lake Woman Arrested After K9 Alerts to Suspected Drugs

The Storm Lake Police Department arrested a local woman early Tuesday after a traffic stop led to the discovery of suspected narcotics.

Police say an officer pulled over a vehicle around 12:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Russell Street for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as 43‑year‑old Sylvia Mendoza of Storm Lake.

A Storm Lake Police K9 was brought to the scene and alerted to the presence of drugs. Officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found marijuana wax, a concentrated cannabis product.

Mendoza was taken into custody without incident. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on two charges: operating a motor vehicle with an expired license, and possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony.

She was held on a $5,175 bond.
