Storm Lake St. Mary’s Middle School Soil/Water Conservation Essay Winners

Storm Lake St. Mary’s Middle School students participated in an essay contest sponsored by the Buena Vista County Soil & Water Conservation District.

This year’s topic was “Keeping Your Neighborhood Clean and Green.” Students researched conservation practices in science class and drafted essays in Language Arts courses. Students gathered in the Wayne and Bernice Andrews Reading and Innovation Center on Tuesday, March 4th, where Colleen Schwanz of the Natural Resource Conservation Service awarded students with their trophies.

Winners included… 

6th Grade: First Place: Amelia Gonzalez, Second Place: Emerson Smith, and Third Place: Netanya Abraham

7th Grade: First Place Nicole Gibbins, Second Place: Ryan McVinua, and Third Place: Fabiola Avila-Rodriguez

8th Grade: First Place Matthew Murray, Second Place: Annabell Gyi, and Third Place: Jazzelle Jacuinde
