The Storm Lake Public Library is one of only 51 libraries nationwide to be awarded a Penguin Random House Grant.
The Storm Lake library is the only one in Iowa to be awarded a cash grant. The Storm Lake Library is among 19 recipients of a one thousand dollar cash grant.

The grants are awarded to support rural and small libraries across the country that are in need. Grant funds will assist Friends of the Library groups, or nonprofit groups that support and raise funds for libraries in their communities. The funds are earmarked for priority projects, including summer reading programs for youth, outreach to seniors, bookmobile improvements, technology upgrades, Friends group development, and more.
The announcement was made today (Wed) by Penguin Random House and United for Libraries. This is National Library Week.
Grants are administered by United for Libraries: The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations, whose mission is to support those who govern, promote, advocate, and fundraise for all types of libraries. Grant funding is provided by Penguin Random House.
Grant recipients receive complimentary eLearning from United for Libraries, including a year of access to United for Libraries Learning Live monthly webinars which present in-depth training to library trustees or board members, Friends board members, foundations, advocates, and those who work with them. Training will help these leaders to leverage grant funds to build support for the library and the Friends group. Additional training is grant writing is available.
