Storm Lake Mayor Will Not Seek Re-Election

Storm Lake Mayor Mike Porsch has announced he will not run for re-election in the upcoming City election this November.

After 16 years of public service—beginning as a City Council member and continuing through two terms as mayor—Porsch says he’s ready to step away from elected office and explore new opportunities.

He emphasized his continued commitment to the community, noting plans to stay involved with local initiatives such as Hometown Pride and the development of the Storm Lake Nature Area. Porsch cited his original motivation for entering public service as a desire to give back to the city he’s called home for over five decades.

Reflecting on his tenure, Porsch expressed pride in efforts like the “Storm Lake Proud” campaign, which promoted community beautification and volunteerism. He also acknowledged the many city staff and leaders he’s worked with over the years, calling them instrumental in moving Storm Lake forward.

The mayor’s seat will be on the ballot in the November 4 election.
