A Storm Lake man is facing multiple charges after a low-speed pursuit early Sunday morning.
At approximately 12:04 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 24), the Storm Lake Police Department stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of Erie Street for a traffic violation. A K9 unit alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, prompting them to ask the driver—40-year-old Jaime Miramontes—to exit the vehicle. Instead, Miramontes fled, leading officers on a slow-moving chase through town.
During the pursuit, police say he tossed evidence out the window before coming to a stop in the 700 block of College Avenue. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Miramontes now faces a list of charges, including possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a domestic abuser, eluding, OWI third offense, interference with official acts, possession of drug paraphernalia, and hemp inhalation. According to the Buena Vista County Jail roster, he is being held on a $40,600 bond.
The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department.
