Storm Lake Man Charged After Allegedly Breaking into Apartment and Assaulting Occupant

A man was arrested on multiple charges following a disturbance report earlier this week in Storm Lake.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the 11-hundred block of North Ontario Street around 8:50 Monday morning. Police made contact with 23-year-old Mach Nyaw of Storm Lake outside the residence. Witnesses reported that Nyaw had previously trespassed at the residence and forced his way into the apartment and assaulted an occupant inside the unit. When the occupant attempted to call 911 for help, Nyaw allegedly grabbed the phone to prevent the victim from calling. Another occupant was able to call 911. No injuries were reported.

Nyaw was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, a class D felony…and Obstruction of Emergency Communications and Trespassing, both simple misdemeanors. Nyaw was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a 53-hundred dollar bond.
