Storm Lake Police arrested a local man last Wednesday night (Nov. 6) on felony forgery and theft charges.
Officers located 50-year-old Jose Sevilla Perez Jr. around 8:50 p.m. in the 500 block of Russell Street. He was wanted on a Buena Vista County warrant charging him with Forgery, a class D felony, and fourth degree theft, a serious misdemeanor.
The charges stem from an Oct. 17 incident at El Mexicano II in Storm Lake. Police allege Sevilla Perez Jr. used a forged check belonging to another person—without their knowledge or consent—to obtain $360 in cash and merchandise. The check was reportedly drawn from a closed account.
During the arrest, officers say they found a small amount of a crystalline substance on Sevilla Perez Jr.’s person. That material has been sent for analysis, and additional charges may be filed pending results.
Sevilla Perez Jr. was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail and held on a $500 bond.
