A Storm Lake man is facing a felony sexual abuse charge following an investigation into an alleged assault reported to police last month.
The Storm Lake Police Department says it was notified Sept. 17 of a belated report of a sexual assault involving an adult woman.
According to police, an investigation determined that the alleged assault occurred in August at a residence in Storm Lake. Police allege that 54-year-old Nery Gutierrez of Storm Lake sexually assaulted the woman. He surrendered himself to Storm Lake police Sept. 30 at the Buena Vista County Jail.
Gutierez was charged with one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Siouxland Child Advocacy Center assisted the Storm Lake Police Department in the investigation.
