The Storm Lake Police Department arrested a local man Monday morning on multiple felony charges after a reported domestic assault.
Around 8:25 a.m., officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of East Railroad Street for a belated domestic disturbance. Police say 28‑year‑old Gerson Jonathan Melgar Gutierrez of Storm Lake forced his way into the victim’s apartment, assaulted the victim, and then fled in a vehicle. The victim suffered bodily injuries and was treated on scene by Buena Vista Regional Medical Center paramedics.
A short time later, officers located Melgar Gutierrez in his vehicle in the 300 block of Irving Street and took him into custody without incident. He was charged with first‑degree burglary, a class B felony; willful injury causing bodily injury, a class D felony; domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury; criminal mischief; and obstruction of emergency communications.
Melgar Gutierrez was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held on a $30,600 bond.
