Storm Lake Man Arrested After Struggle With Police, Trying to Take Gun

A man was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly fighting with Storm Lake police and trying to take an officer’s gun during a disturbance call.

Authorities report they were called around 4:55 a.m. to a residence on Erie Street to assist ambulance personnel. Police say 45‑year‑old Sefton Akin of Storm Lake was agitated and yelling inside the home. When officers arrived, they allege Akin remained belligerent toward both police and other occupants.

As officers attempted to intervene, Akin allegedly became physically combative and tried to disarm an officer’s firearm. He was subdued and taken into custody.

Akin faces charges of interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, and disarming a peace officer of a dangerous weapon, a class D felony. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and is being held on a $5,300 bond.
