The Storm Lake FFA Officer team attended the Northwest Iowa District FFA Chapter Officer Leadership Training Conference, or COLT, at Dordt University in Sioux Center on Tuesday of last week, June 7th.
During the conference, district and state FFA officers led four interactive workshops that focused on advocating for the agriculture industry, connecting with stakeholders, recruiting for the local chapter, and working as a cohesive team. Storm Lake FFA Officers also received training relative to their specific officer duties within the local chapter.
Storm Lake FFA President, Sydney Hurd, stated, “The COLT conference provided our new 2022-23 officer team with a chance to learn more about what it takes to be a leader in our FFA Chapter. I also enjoyed meeting fellow FFA members from around the area, as well as the opportunity to connect with state, and district FFA Officers.”
COLT conference programming is designed as a two-year rotation of local leaders training. The focus areas of next year’s program include agriculture literacy, time management, professionalism, and self-confidence. The goal is to engage FFA members in learning about the tools that would allow them to be successful in anything they are part of through high school and beyond.
