Storm Lake City Council Approves City’s 2025 Annual Report

The Storm Lake City Council has approved the City’s 2025 Annual Report, a comprehensive document that highlights the year’s major accomplishments, challenges, and priorities across every department.

Communications Coordinator Dana Larsen presented the report at the Feb. 2 city council meeting, describing it as a transparent snapshot of city operations. The report is designed to give residents a clear view of how their local government is performing and where resources are being directed.

Among the highlights: Storm Lake completed several major infrastructure projects in 2025, including continued upgrades to water and sewer systems and street resurfacing efforts aimed at improving safety and efficiency. The Parks and Recreation Department expanded programming and invested in facility improvements, while the Public Safety Department reported strong results in crime prevention and emergency response. The report also notes the addition of new equipment and training for police and fire personnel.

Economic development was another focus. The City worked with regional partners to support housing initiatives and business growth, while also advancing long‑term planning for community amenities. The report points to collaboration with the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation and other groups as part of Storm Lake’s broader strategy to strengthen the local economy.

The Annual Report also documents challenges, including staffing transitions and the need to balance resources across departments.

Council members unanimously approved the report, clearing the way for its release to the public. Residents have the option to access it online through the City’s website and social media platforms, while printed copies are available at City Hall.

While the report carries no fiscal impact, officials stressed its importance as a communication tool. By documenting projects, department highlights, and ongoing priorities, the City hopes to keep residents informed and engaged and set the stage for the current year.
