Spencer’s Avera@Home Hospice Earns Top Honor for Veteran Care

Avera@Home Hospice of Spencer Hospital has earned national recognition for its commitment to serving veterans.

The program has been awarded a Level 4 Star designation in the We Honor Veterans initiative, the highest level in a collaboration between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

The designation reflects years of work to expand access and improve the quality of hospice services for veterans and their families in northwest Iowa.

Alana Clark, Director of Hospice and Home Health at Spencer Hospital, says the honor underscores the staff’s dedication.

A key leader in the effort has been Chelsea Reed, who has guided the hospital’s participation in the program for the past four years. Clark credits Reed’s persistence and advocacy for strengthening partnerships with the VA and elevating daily care.

For veterans, the recognition means hospice care that acknowledges military service, understands unique physical and emotional needs, and honors each individual’s goals at the end of life.
