Spencer Man Gets 8-Year Meth Sentence

A Spencer man has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for methamphetamine distribution.

Thirty-three-year-old Dylan Everett Halbur pleaded guilty in March to possessing meth with intent to distribute. The charge stems from an August 2024 search of a camper in Spencer, where authorities found 45 grams of meth, nearly $3,000 in cash, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Halbur admitted the meth was his and that he planned to sell it.

He was sentenced Aug. 27 in Sioux City to 105 months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release. Halbur remains in U.S. Marshal custody pending transfer to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by Spencer Police, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa DCI Lab, and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
