Spectacular Unveils 2026 Theme: “Built on Freedom. Bound by Community”

Storm Lake’s Star Spangled Spectacular is gearing up for another major Independence Day celebration, and organizers say this year’s theme captures both the nation’s history and the character of the community.

Commodores Tyler and Deidre Aube have selected “Built on Freedom. Bound by Community” as the 2026 theme—a message they say reflects the founding ideals of July Fourth as well as the shared spirit that defines Storm Lake.

The Aubes say the theme is meant to honor the freedoms at the heart of Independence Day while recognizing the people who make Storm Lake what it is.

The Star Spangled Spectacular has long been known for drawing families and visitors from across Iowa and beyond, and for showcasing the city’s cultural diversity through events like the Parade of Nations. Organizers say the new theme speaks to both sides of that identity: the country’s commitment to liberty, and the community’s commitment to one another.

This year’s celebration will again span July 3-4, with a full lineup of entertainment.

Friday evening will feature the Classic Car Cruise, the Kiddie Parade, and live music in the bandshell at Sunset Park. Saturday begins with the Ride‑Run around the lake, followed by the Big Parade along Lakeshore Drive at 10:30 a.m. Food vendors, music, and family activities will continue throughout the day, leading up to the fireworks over the lake Saturday night. A full schedule will be posted online as plans are finalized.

Organizers say they’ll need more volunteers than in past years, especially for Friday night events at Sunset Park and for parade and parking support on July 4.

Anyone interested in helping can contact the commodores through the event website, starspangledspectacular.net, or by email. Updates will also be shared on the event’s social media pages.
