Schaller Woman Gets 10‑Year Prison Sentence in Plea Deal

A Schaller woman has been sentenced in Sac County following a violent attack earlier this fall.

Thirty‑five‑year‑old Jennifer Lynn Rathe was originally charged with attempted murder and willful injury after allegedly attacking a male victim on Sept. 15. Court documents say Rathe cut the victim’s throat with a knife and then tried to stab him in the eye.

Rathe initially pleaded not guilty and was set to stand trial on Dec. 9, but she changed her plea to guilty to willful injury causing serious injury— a class C felony—as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Last week, Rathe was sentenced to 10 years in prison with no probation. She will receive credit for time already served in connection with the case. In addition, she was ordered to pay a $1,370 fine.

The attempted murder charge, which carried up to 25 years in prison, was dismissed under the plea deal.
