Platinum Crush Road Project Moves to Bidding Phase

Buena Vista County Engineer Bret Wilkinson updated the county board of supervisors Tuesday morning on the Platinum Crush road project and the Highway 7 intersection redesign.

Phase 2 is officially out for bid, with proposals due Sept. 18 and a pre-bid meeting set for Sept. 3 to field contractor questions. Wilkinson recommends the board be ready to move forward with bonding documents at its Sept. 23 meeting, when bids are expected to be awarded.

Estimated costs for Phase 2—including construction and utilities—are in the $4 to $4.5 million range. Wilkinson says bids that exceed the engineer’s estimate by more than 10 percent could be rejected.

As for Phase 3, the Iowa DOT and its consultants are still refining plans for the Highway 7 intersections at 70th and 80th Avenues. An on-site meeting originally slated for mid-September may be delayed as design updates continue, says Wilkinson.

Wilkinson says he’ll keep the board informed as timelines shift.
