Buena Vista County is moving forward with Phase 2 of the Platinum Crush road project, after the county supervisors approved final bid documents during yesterday’s board meeting.
Phase 2 of the project involves a mile-and-a-half stretch that will connect 600th Street and 80th Avenue to the new pavement near the soybean processing plant east of Alta.
County Engineer Bret Wilkinson says the project is ready to hit the bidding stage.
The board approved the plan set and notice to bidders, with proposals due by 1 p.m. on Sept. 18. A pre-bid meeting will be held Sept. 3 at the county engineer’s office to address contractor questions, says Wilkinson.
The county set a completion deadline of Sept. 15, 2026, ensuring the road will be open to traffic before next year’s harvest.
Phase 2 is part of a multi-stage effort to improve access around the Platinum Crush facility. Phase 3 will follow, pending final cost estimates and bonding limits tied to the Iowa DOT’s redesign of the Highway 7 intersection with 80th Avenue.
