One Fatality, Four Injured in Collision Near Peterson

Yesterday morning (Monday, July 15), a collision between a semi and an SUV on a rural road in Buena Vista County killed one person and sent four more to the hospital.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2020 Subaru Outback was turning left off County Road M-27 about five miles southwest of Peterson, Iowa when it failed to yield to an oncoming semi just before 10 A.M.

The semi hit the Outback’s right side.

The front-seat passenger of the Subaru, 42-year-old Coree Keller of Popejoy, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver, 37-year-old Nicholas Seaburg of Popejoy, and three young children, ages 11, 7 and 5, were injured.

Two of the children, an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, were flown by helicopter to Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls.

The 7-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

The driver of the semi, 69-year-old Marlon Klein of Sheldon, was not injured.
