The City of Storm Lake is offering residents an affordable clean-up opportunity as part of this spring’s Storm Lake Proud Week.
Residents may purchase a ticket in advance for the day of their choice to drop off a load of unwanted items at the Buena Vista County Recycling Center, 1263 630th Street, Storm Lake. Citywide Clean-up drop-off dates will be Monday through Friday, May 5th through the 9th
Tickets may be purchased at City Hall while supplies last. 50 tickets are available for each day from May 5th through the 9th. Tickets are $15 per load, a significant discounted rate from normal fees at the center. The City will donate proceeds to Upper Des Moines Opportunity non-profit food pantry program.
There will be no drop-offs without a ticket, and drop-offs must be made on the day of the ticket purchase. Additional tickets will be needed if a participant is bringing more than one load. In the event of a serious storm preventing drop-off on a particular day, an alternate date will be provided.
Those dropping off loads must unload their vehicle themselves. The program is open to all Storm Lake residents, and items should come from Storm Lake properties.
Most household items are eligible for the Clean-Up opportunity, such as furniture, appliances, TVs and computer monitors, car tires (no rims), car batteries, push mowers, carpeting, grills, plastic items, etc.
The following cannot be accepted in this program: yard waste, construction materials, paint, hazardous chemicals or cleaners, propane tanks, ceramic fixtures such as toilets and sinks, or junk vehicles and parts. Contact the Recycle Center for more information on how to properly dispose of those items, at 712-732-7171.
Residents are encouraged to help neighbors who may be unable to haul or load/unload their own items.
Mayor Mike Porsch said that the Clean-up is an important part of the Storm Lake Proud program, allowing residents to clean up their properties at an affordable rate, while helping out a good cause in the community. “Storm Lake Proud is all about working together to improve the community we share,” he said. “We encourage involvement and camaraderie, working with your neighbors to beautify Storm Lake.”
In addition to the Citywide Clean-Up, Storm Lakers are invited to volunteer for one of the volunteer efforts during the Storm Lake Proud Week. Contact Public Services Program Manager Kim Woltman at 732-8029 or woltman@stormlake.org to volunteer or for more information.
