Memorial Day Seat Belt Campaign Starts Today

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is partnering with law enforcement across Iowa on a “Click It Don’t Risk It” seat belt enforcement effort that coincides with the Memorial Day holiday.

The campaign by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets underway today (Mon) and goes through June 1st.

According to information provided by GTSB, 44 percent of traffic fatalities in Iowa in 2024, 108 people, were unbuckled. In a GTSB survey of over 1,450 Iowans, 88 percent said they always buckle up in the front seat, but only 67 percent said they always buckle up in the back seat.

Those who know of a friend or family member who does not wear a seat belt are encouraged to talk to them about changing their habits.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau works with city, county, state, and local organizations to develop and implement strategies to reduce death and injury on Iowa roads using federally funded grants.
