A man injured in a Storm Lake parking lot crash last week has died from his injuries.
Storm Lake police say 84‑year‑old Larry Spiess of Alta passed away after being struck by a pickup Thursday morning in the Walmart parking lot on North Lake Avenue. First responders were called just after 9:30 a.m. Police say Spiess was walking in the lot when he was hit by a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 49‑year‑old Valentin Ventura‑Mora of Storm Lake. Spiess was taken by ambulance to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center with a severe head injury and later died as a result of that trauma.
Storm Lake Police Fire Department also assisted at the scene. The case remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
The Storm Lake Police Department extends condolences to Spiess’s family and loved ones.
