A Spencer man has been arrested in connection to an alleged hit-and-run in Ruthven.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received information from the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office regarding the incident that happened at Bully’s Bar and Grille. The vehicle involved was a pickup truck driven by 41-year-old Justin Cook, who was believed to be intoxicated and under the influence, and also had warrants for his arrest.
A Clay County deputy located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Upon making contact with Cook, the deputy smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. After being put through field sobriety tests, Cook was placed under arrest at 12:30 Saturday morning in the 26 hundred mile of Highway 18. During a search, he was found to be in possession of marijuana. A search of Cook’s vehicle led to the discovery of cocaine, open containers, drug paraphernalia, and additional marijuana.
Cook was booked into the Clay County Jail for 3rd Offense Possession of a Controlled Substance Cocaine, a class D felony…as well as a few misdemeanor charges. Cook was also held on two drug-related Palo Alto County arrest warrants.
