A Laurens man has been arrested in connection with a January robbery at a Spencer convenience store.
The Spencer Police Department says 35‑year‑old Daniel Douglas was taken into custody Friday by the Pocahontas Police Department following a months‑long investigation into the incident at the Brew Convenience Store on South Grand Avenue.
Authorities say the robbery happened the night of January 2, just before 10 p.m. Investigators allege Douglas entered the store wearing a face covering, went behind the counter, and took cash. Police say when a store employee confronted him, Douglas assaulted the clerk before running from the scene.
The case remained under investigation until officers identified Douglas as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was booked into the Clay County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
Douglas is charged with second‑degree robbery, a Class C felony. Under Iowa law, a conviction carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
