Lake City’s Darcy Maulsby Honored for Impact in Iowa Agriculture

An agricultural leader from Calhoun County has been recognized statewide for her impact on Iowa farming.

Darcy Maulsby of Lake City was honored at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Women in Ag Leadership Conference earlier this month in Ames. She was one of four recipients of the “Women Impacting Agriculture” recognition, which celebrates those who strengthen rural communities through leadership, conservation, and service.

Maulsby is a fifth‑generation farmer and longtime advocate for telling Iowa’s agricultural story. Since 2002, she has led Darcy Maulsby & Co., providing marketing and communications services to cooperatives, agribusinesses, and farm media. She is also an award‑winning journalist and the author of eight nonfiction books highlighting Iowa’s history and food culture.

Following her father’s passing in 2019, Maulsby assumed leadership of her family’s Century Farm, guiding its generational transition and advancing conservation practices in partnership with NRCS and Iowa Learning Farms. Her efforts earned her the 2023 Conservation Woman of the Year Award.

An Iowa State graduate with degrees in journalism, history, and marketing, Maulsby continues to serve on local boards and remains active in community leadership.

ISU’s Women in Ag program manager Madeline Schultz says honorees like Maulsby represent the strength and vision that drive Iowa agriculture forward.
