An Ida Grove woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the death of her three-year-old son.
24-year-old Billie Mosier was sentenced on Friday. She was convicted of one count of Child Endangerment resulting in Death back on April 4th. Along with the prison sentence, Mosier must also pay 150 thousand dollars in restitution.
On the evening of May 4th 2023, the Battle Creek Ambulance Service was called to 500 Maple Street in Battle Creek for a call of an unresponsive child. Jordan Reed was not breathing, and he was transported to Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, and then to the Omaha Children’s Hospital. Jordan was pronounced dead the next day.
Mosier told authorities that she was traveling with Jordan in his car seat, arrived in Battle Creek, and found him slumped over. According to court documents, she said she assumed he strangled himself on the safety seat chest strap after falling asleep. An autopsy by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner determined that while the child died of strangulation, his injuries were inconsistent with Mosier’s claims.
Mosier turned herself in to the Ida County Sheriff’s Office on November 30th, 2023.
