A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for the new Sioux Central Agricultural Education Greenhouse.
The event will be held outside of the school in Sioux Rapids on Monday, March 18th at 6pm. The Sioux Central FFA Chapter invites the public to attend the groundbreaking.
There will be a short ceremony with games to follow led by members of the greenhouse committee. Attendees are invited to bring their own decorated shovels to compete for prizes. The event will also act as the Sioux Central FFA’s kick-off to National Ag Week.
The greenhouse will include current technology such as automatic watering and climate control. Students will learn how to manage business, as well as a commercial greenhouse. Sioux Central Ag Education Instructor Melanie Bloom previously said the greenhouse will allow students with a non-ag background to get a hands-on opportunity to learn about agriculture and crop production. It will also introduce students to careers such as nursery and landscape, floriculture, and agronomy and crop production.
Bloom says they hope to have the greenhouse operational by this August for the start of next school year.
The Sioux Central Agricultural Education program started in the 2000-2001 school year.
