Fire Destroys Ida Grove Residence

An Ida Grove residence was completely destroyed due to a fire early Monday morning.

Members of the Ida Grove Fire Department responded to the fire around 4:50am Monday at the residence on Moorehead Avenue. Fire fighters discovered the house was completely engulfed in flames upon arrival. A backhoe was brought in to demolish the home, and to make sure that the fire was totally extinguished.

According to Ida Grove Fire Chief Scott VanDusen, the man who lived at the residence had to leave the property and report the fire directly to authorities because he couldn’t find his phone. The homeowner was airlifted to Lincoln, Nebraska for treatment due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
