Fire Causes Heavy Damage to Storm Lake Residence

A house in Storm Lake sustained heavy damage from a fire over the weekend.

According to information provided by the City of Storm Lake, the local fire department was dispatched to the residence at 110 Hudson Street for a reported oven fire at 12:48pm Sunday. The first officer on the scene arrived four minutes later, and found a fire extending beyond the kitchen. The first fire truck arrived four minutes after that.

The residents escaped, but an unknown number of pets did not survive. The cause is related to a cooking fire, and has been ruled accidental in nature.

Eight fire department units were involved, including all three of its engines and tower ladder. The Storm Lake Police Department, Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, and BVRMC EMS provided assistance.
