Family passes at King’s Pointe Resort are officially gone.
The Storm Lake City Council on Monday night approved a resolution eliminating the family options at both the outdoor water park and Sunrise Pointe Golf Course, moving instead to individual and child passes only.
King’s Pointe General Manager Amy Von Bank told the council the change comes after years of confusion over what qualifies as a family, creating challenges for staff and guests.
Von Bank said lowering the individual water park pass from $150 to $100, and setting child passes at $75, should encourage more consistent use while keeping the facilities financially sustainable. She added that similar changes in other communities have been well received after the first season.
Individual and junior passes will remain at Sunrise Pointe Golf Course, with new punch card options: a 10‑round green fee card at $140, a cart rental card at $150, and a combo card at $250. Private course rental fees will rise modestly, and promotions will include a junior pass sale and a referral program for returning pass holders.
Council members raised questions about “landlover” admissions for non‑swimmers. Von Bank explained that occupancy limits make separate passes impractical.
She noted that while golf passes will feature a junior discount sale, water park passes will not — citing the city’s already‑budgeted $80,000 loss for the 2026 season.
The council voted unanimously to approve the resolution.
Councilperson Maggie Martinez also urged more advertising of King’s Pointe’s Buena Vista County resident rate, suggesting signage and city social media outreach. Von Bank said signage is already posted at admissions, but agreed more promotion could help.
