City Council Approves Members for New Civic Leadership Committee

The Storm Lake City Council has approved the first nine members who will serve on the city’s new Mayor’s Civic Leadership Advisory Committee—a group created earlier this year to strengthen civic engagement and help guide long-term leadership development in the community.

The appointments were included in Monday night’s consent agenda. Mayor Meg McKeon took a moment to publicly highlight the action.

The committee was established by a city council resolution in January. Its purpose is to provide guidance and suggestions to the mayor on community needs, civic involvement, and the development of future leaders. The group will also play a role in long‑range visioning for Storm Lake, with members serving staggered one‑, two‑, and three‑year terms.

McKeon said the residents selected for the inaugural committee attended an orientation meeting earlier this month before submitting their applications.

Dierking, Alanis, and Foglesong will serve one‑year terms. James, Butler, and Walker will serve two‑year terms. Aaron Ramos, Davis, and Izabelle Ramos will serve three‑year terms. One city staff member, appointed by the city manager, will participate as an ex‑officio member.

McKeon said she’s eager to begin working with the group as it starts shaping its role in the months ahead.

The committee will meet at least quarterly, or more often at the direction of the mayor. McKeon will serve as chair.

Storm Lake residents attended an introductory session at Sunrise Pointe Golf Course as the city prepared to launch its new Mayor’s Civic Leadership Advisory Committee. The orientation, led by Mayor Meg McKeon, outlined the committee’s goals and encouraged participants to apply for the inaugural seats. (Photo submitted)
