Downtown Storm Lake will transform into a Halloween hotspot this Saturday as Storm Lake United hosts its annual Chills and Thrills celebration.
From 10 a.m. to noon, families are invited to enjoy street trick-or-treating, games, costumes, and community fun along the 500 to 700 blocks of Lake Avenue. The area will be closed to traffic during event hours under a city-approved variance, and parking may be limited.
Highlights include face painting by the Buena Vista University Mentorship Program, photo ops with the Storm Lake Police Department, and a Pop-A-Shot basketball challenge courtesy of Jones Nursery. Local businesses and student groups will also offer candy and activities.
Beyond downtown, several businesses are joining the festivities:
- Hy-Vee will host cookie decorating and giveaways from 10 to 1.
- Edwards of Storm Lake will hold a Halloween party from noon to 2.
- Fareway and Walgreens will offer in-store treats throughout the morning.
Returning for its second year, the Caring Paws Pet Costume Contest kicks off at 10 a.m. The top prize includes a free pizza from Pizza Ranch and goodies for your pet. All animals must be leashed or in carriers and licensed with the city.
