Caring Paws Rescue will host a low‑cost heartworm testing event for dog owners 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 4.
The test will cost $15, and no appointments are required. The event will take place at the rescue’s new location in the former Lake Animal Hospital building at 107 West 16th St. in Storm Lake. Caring Paws notes that only 30 test kits are available, so pet owners are encouraged to arrive early. Payment will be accepted by cash or check.
Heartworm disease is a serious but preventable condition that can be fatal if left untreated. The rescue says routine testing is an important part of responsible pet care, allowing for early detection and timely treatment.
Caring Paws Rescue President Sue Lyngaas says the goal is to make preventive care accessible for more families by keeping the cost low.
Caring Paws Rescue serves Buena Vista County through animal rescue efforts, education, and community outreach, with a focus on supporting responsible pet ownership and improving animal welfare.
