Buena Vista Approves Project to Bury Three Miles of Power Lines

The Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors approved a utility permit for Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative at its regularly scheduled weekly meeting last Tuesday morning (July 29) at the county courthouse in Storm Lake.

The project, described as a “bigger undertaking” by county officials, will bury three miles of overhead electric lines between Lynn Grove and Sioux Rapids along 440th Street, from 90th Avenue to 120th Avenue.

The plan includes directional boring under the road at 10 separate points and the installation of 13 green enclosures—commonly used to connect underground lines to nearby residences or farm buildings.

The cooperative will plow and bore within the county right-of-way. Two-thirds of the project will run along the north ditch, with the remaining stretch shifting to the south side, says Buena Vista County Engineer Bret Wilkinson.

Once completed, all overhead poles along this section will be removed.

A project timeline was not specified.
