Alta Rolls Out New Logo Designed by Local Student

The City of Alta is rolling out a new official logo, and the design comes from right inside the community.

City leaders have adopted a fresh visual identity created by Alta‑Aurelia student Bianca Alvarado, following a partnership between the city and Alta Hometown Pride.

Alta Hometown Pride was asked to lead the project as the city looks to update its branding for future marketing, communication, and signage. The committee turned to Alvarado, a Key Club member with a growing interest in graphic design. She drew on Alta’s history, its geography, and the longtime community slogan, “Catch the Energy,” to build a design meant to reflect both the city’s roots and its momentum.

Alta’s identity has long been tied to its location. The Buena Vista County community of just over 2,000 sits on Buffalo Ridge, the high point of the former Chicago‑Illinois Railroad line in Iowa. The ridge divides the Mississippi and Missouri River watersheds and is known for its elevation and steady winds—features that have shaped the landscape and helped make wind energy part of the local economy.

Those elements show up in the new logo, which city officials describe as clean, modern, and flexible enough for use on everything from digital platforms to stationery and future signage. The Alta City Council formally approved the design after a presentation from Alta Hometown Pride.

Council member and Hometown Pride Co‑Chair Pam Henderson says the project underscores the value of local partnerships and local talent. She says the group is proud to work with Alvarado and excited to see the logo represent Alta in the years ahead.

Alta Hometown Pride continues to lead community‑driven projects aimed at strengthening amenities, civic pride, and economic vitality. The next step tied to the logo rollout will be updated community welcome signs, with planning already underway.

The city and Alta Hometown Pride are publicly thanking Alvarado for her work. Residents can expect to start seeing the new logo appear across the community as the city transitions to its updated brand.
