The Storm Lake Police Department responded just after midnight yesterday to a reported domestic assault in the 300 block of East First Street.
Authorities say 34‑year‑old Victor Manuel Rodriguez Garcia of Alta assaulted his wife by choking her and restricting her breathing. Investigators report the victim tried to call 911, but Rodriguez Garcia allegedly took the phone, preventing the call.
Rodriguez Garcia was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including domestic abuse assault of a pregnant person impeding air flow, a Class D felony, and obstruction of emergency communication, a simple misdemeanor.
He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
