The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office has released new details about the death of a missing Minnesota man whose body was discovered Saturday near the Prairie Heritage Center near Peterson.
Authorities say the case is being investigated as a suicide, and no foul play is suspected.
According to Sheriff Bruce Devereaux, the investigation began about 8:30 a.m. Saturday when the Fairmont, Minnesota Police Department contacted O’Brien County about a missing person whose family had reported receiving suicidal text messages. Deputies began searching rural areas near the Prairie Heritage Center.
At about 3:30 p.m., an O’Brien County deputy located the individual’s vehicle at the Little Sioux River access at Burnt Bridge on Wilson Avenue, just north of the Prairie Heritage Center. The missing person was found deceased inside the vehicle. The sheriff’s office says the identity of the victim is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
In Wednesday’s update, Sheriff Devereaux confirmed the death is being investigated as a suicide and that no suspicious circumstances have been identified. He extended condolences to the individual’s family and said the department will continue coordinating with Minnesota authorities.
