Storm Lake Will be an Overnight Stop for RAGBRAI This Year

Storm Lake will be an overnight stop on the 2023 RAGBRAI route.

The 50th anniversary of the bike ride will begin in Sioux City on Saturday, July 22nd, and participants will travel to Storm Lake the following day on Sunday, July 23rd. The route will continue to Carroll the next day, with the remaining overnight stops in Ames, Des Moines, Tama-Toledo, and Coralville, and will wind up in Davenport on July 29th.

The total distance of the bike ride this year is 500 miles. It’ll be the longest route since 2001, and only the 6th of 500 miles or more. The route was announced at an event tonight (Sat) in Des Moines. Around 20-thousand riders are anticipated for the event. Registration is available now at the RAGBRAI website.

Storm Lake was set to be the first overnight stop for RAGBRAI in 2020 before the event was canceled due to COVID concerns. The same route was planned for RAGBRAI in 2021, but Storm Lake opted out over several pandemic-related concerns.

This will be the 7th time that Storm Lake will be an overnight stop for RAGBRAI, and the first time since 2015. Storm Lake United will host a RAGBRAI Chamber Coffee this coming Thursday, February 2nd at 9:30am at Kaleidoscope Marketing.
