The Storm Lake School Board this week rejected the lone bid they received for the high school baseball field turf replacement project.
The one bid received was from Woodruff Construction in the amount of nearly 823-thousand dollars, which is nearly double the estimated cost of 412-thousand dollars.
Storm Lake School District Chief Operating Officer Jeff Tollefson said the baseball field turf needs to be replaced, as it is 13 years old, and was due to be replaced three years ago. Tollefson is hopeful that bids will be better the 2nd time around, as the board approved setting a new public hearing for the project on March 1st at noon. The new bid opening will be held on March 9th.
In addition to the turf replacement, the project will also add a 40-foot backstop, as well as dugout netting protection.
In other business, the school board approved a five-dollar pay increase for driver’s education instructors from 230 to 235-dollars per student for this spring and summer.
