Iowa Harvest Continues to Progress Beyond Average

Iowa’s harvest season remains ahead of average according to the USDA Crop Progress Report, as farmers had nearly all of last week suitable for fieldwork.

Along with harvesting row crops, activities last week included fall tillage and applying fall fertilizer. There were some field fires reported due to dry conditions.

The corn harvest in Iowa reached 59-percent complete, which is one day ahead of last year, and eight days ahead of the five-year average. 82-percent of northwest Iowa corn has been harvested. By comparison, only 38-percent of northeast Iowa corn has been harvested, and 39-percent in the south central part of the state.

88-percent of soybeans have been harvested statewide, which is 11 days ahead of the average. 98-percent of northwest Iowa soybeans have been harvested.
