BV County to Recount Some Election Votes Due to Ballot Machine Issue

Buena Vista County will conduct a recount of some primary election votes due to a scanning machine issue.

Due to a ballot jam, BV County’s ballot scanning machine count is believed to be inaccurate. BV County Auditor and Commission of Elections, Sue Lloyd, as well as the Secretary of State’s Office, is asking to conduct an administrative recount of all races in two affected precincts to ensure every vote is counted properly. Election officials discovered the issue affected two ballots countywide.

The Buena Vista County Auditor’s Office and Secretary of State’s office is working with the scanning machine vendor to resolve the issue. The problem was also reported by several other counties in Iowa that use the same equipment, including Clay and O’Brien.
