Porsch says about a dozen people are part of the local Child Care Committee…
Porsch says the committee has been working on the project for the last three or four months. Addressing the childcare shortage is a top goal that was set for this year by the Storm Lake City Council.
According to the Census Bureau, Storm Lake’s population and the number of children age 11 and under has grown substantially in the past two decades. Recent estimates show more than 23 hundred children in the city are 11 years old or younger.
There are over 25 hundred families with children in Storm Lake. As of three years ago, 52 percent of families had children up to five years old with all parents in the workforce, and 70 percent of families had kids between the ages of six and 17 with all parents working.
