More Than 330-Thousand Dollars Raised at St. Mary’s Ball and Charity Auction

A total of 334-thousand 498 dollars was raised for the Storm Lake St. Mary’s school at this year’s Ball and Charity Auction.

A check was presented to the school as part of the event, which was held this past Saturday at Buena Vista University. Nearly 200 St. Mary’s supporters, parents, grandparents, graduates, and friends were in attendance. Funds were raised for the event through sponsorships, ticket sales, a one-hundred dollar Big Raffle, silent and live auctions, and a reverse auction to raise funds to renovate the St. Mary’s music room.

The chairs for this year’s event were Kevin and Tera Brown of Storm Lake, with co-chairs, Josh and Kelli Berg, also of Storm Lake. Paxtons Chest of Chance bag decoration was completed by Tracy Drey, MaryAnn Miller, Etta Smith, Ralna McVinua, and Paula Lindquist. The ballroom was decorated by Maddi Sundblad with WOW Weddings.

The top winners of the Big Raffle drawing were Tom and Peggy Flanigan of Storm Lake, who won the $5,000 grand prize. Shane and Melissa Harrer and Carter Frank both won the $2,000 prize. The $1,000 winners include Ann Grundmeier, Stacey Tiefenthaler, Jose Cano, and Jerry Hurd. $500 winners were Charlie Smith, Tony Pertzborn, Amee Lundberg and Adam and Katie Pickett. The Chest Of Chance Emerald 14K yellow gold ring donated by Paxtons Jewelry was won by Kallie Carstons.

Auction items that generated the most excitement included 80 acres of corn herbicide donated by Craig Lamoureux/Ag State, purchased by Richard Dirkx for $7,500, Iowa Hawkeye Ironman box tickets, donated by Doug and Joanie Clausen and purchased by Brandon and Stephanie Frank for $6,400, and vacation packages, like a Hawaiian getaway, donated by Seth and Deanna Harrer and purchased by Melissa Iehl for $6,000.

St. Mary’s wants to thank our sponsors Central Bank, Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home, Paxtons Jewelry, Joseph Nemmers, Wow Weddings, and Green Real Estate & Auction Co, as well as all the businesses and St. Mary’s supporters who donated items and made this event possible.

All proceeds raised benefit academic programs at St. Mary’s School. Admission to St. Mary’s School is open to Catholic and non-Catholic students alike.
