One driver was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Ida County over the weekend.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident happened around 7:30am Saturday on county road L-51 near 297th Street. 33-year-old Colton Claussen of Schleswig was driving a pickup truck northbound on L-51. Claussen’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a southbound car driven by 59-year-old Russell Mefferd of Denison. The truck rolled, landed on its wheels, and came to rest facing south in the west ditch of L-51. The car spun and came to rest facing north in the west ditch of L-51.
Mefferd was pronounced dead at the scene. Claussen was transported to Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove to be treated for injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
