Cherokee Woman Hospitalized Following Weekend Crash Near Sutherland

A crash Sunday afternoon near Sutherland sent a Cherokee woman to the hospital.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says 60-year-old David Nelson of Cherokee was driving southbound in the 4200 mile of Taft Avenue when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle went off the road, collided with a mailbox, struck a field drive, and went into a field where it came to rest. A passenger, 82-year-old Janice Nelson of Cherokee, was taken by ambulance to the Primghar hospital.

David Nelson complained of possible injury, but didn’t seek immediate treatment.
