Storm Lake School Board Approves Purchase of Prairie Lakes AEA Building

The Storm Lake School Board on Wednesday authorized the district’s purchase of the Prairie Lakes AEA Building on Flindt Drive.

Superintendent Dr. Stacey Cole said they received permission from the Department of Education to use Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds, known as ESSER, to make the purchase…(audio clip below)

Dr. Cole said the current tenants will remain in the AEA building through June of 2024 to figure out their next move. The building is being obtained for one-million dollars. ESSER funds run out next June. Board President Dave Skibsted said it’s a great way for the district to use the funds, and will be a great location for the district to put to some kind of use.

Last August, the school board approved the purchase of the Iowa Central Community College space that is adjacent to the high school.
