This week, the Storm Lake Police Department presented Service Awards for outstanding officer performance during National Police Week. These awards were given to the following officers:
The Duty Knife Award went to Vu Nguygen; the Service Stripe Award was given to Tyler Munden; Top Shooter Award was to Officer Cody Cameron; Lieutenant Alyssa Solem and Officer Thomas Lane were recognized by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) for outstanding performance in impaired driving enforcement; Lieutenant Solem, Officer Lane, as well as Officer Mitchell McDonald, were honored for their performance in detection and apprehension of impaired drivers; Life-Saving Award went to Lieutenant Matt Younie and Officer McDonald; Civilian of the Year was Jessica Meyer; and Officer Thomas Lane was the Officer of the Year.
In addition, the SLPD achieved two other awards including the U.S. Secretary of Defense Freedom Award for support of its military members. The other award was the ICMA 2022 Community Equity and Inclusion Award for the department’s outreach efforts in the community.
