Playing on their home fields in front of a big crowd the Storm Lake softball and baseball teams both suffered tough 1-0 losses to visiting E-L-C in key Lakes Conference matchups.
E-L-C’s Grace Nath, who only had seven varsity at-bats coming into the game, hit a one out triple in the top of the 7th inning and then scored on a throwing error to 3rd base. The Tornadoes managed only three hits but twice lined into inning ending double plays. Avery DeHaan pitched very well in the loss giving up three hits while striking out seven and walking three.
E-L-C improved to 23-5 and 7-0 in the Lakes Conference while the Tornadoes fall to 16-3 and 5-2 in the league.
The E-L-C baseball team also plated a run in the top of the 7th inning for their victory. Charlie Dvergsten was saddled with the loss despite giving up only three hits. Dvergsten struck out 12 and hit one batter. Winning pitcher Preston Crees gave up only one hit and that was Bobby Boeckman’s 5th inning double.
